Austin Sugai Emerging Talent Recruiter, GoDaddy In 2021, the GoDaddy Emerging Talent team created a new spin-off of our flagship intern program called the Software Engineering Bootcamp, which provided additional education and technical scaffolding for students from historically underrepresented groups. We began to seek out volunteers within the engineering teams to help build out curriculum and lead these various workshops. Raphael was one of the first folks to volunteer for this great undertaking, and with it, brought his passion for software development and teaching.
His excellent technical prowess that he has honed through years of working as a high-performing software engineer were augmented through his ability to break down the concepts into elementary level building blocks which allowed the content to be easily digested by the bootcamp attendees. Not only does he give excellent technical advice on how to approach these topics, but through sitting in on his sessions, it is clear that the students resonate and are engaged with the material that he has developed and put out.
Each year, Raphael is one of the first people our team reaches out to in order to reinstate our bootcamp program and iterate on it from prior years. He always brings fresh perspective on how to tweak approaches to learning so that the next wave of students can learn even better than the last. It is occasionally difficult to find engineers who have 1. the bandwidth and 2. the enthusiasm for such a project, but Raphael is truly a standout in this sense. His excitement for this program reinvigorates the entire Emerging Talent team as we work to build this out year after year.
Through regular surveys that are issued at the end of each bootcamp program, Raphael's sessions consistently rank among the top for clarity, engagement, and overall satisfaction. Many of these students note that not only do they want to come work at GoDaddy, but that they specifically want to work on Raphael's team as they know they'll continue to receive world-class mentorship from him.
This passion for continued education is not one that can be taught. He has a clear intrinsic value placed on learning, which translates into passion for his work. Nobody benefits more from this than those who get to be under his infectious instruction.
